Prologue
Chuck Bartowski is a vampire.
Before you ask, no, he doesn't sparkle. He can go into sunlight; he's just weakened during the time. All the normal vampire traits apply. Heightened senses (he could see people a lot more clearly in dark areas), more strength than humans (a test run with Captain Awesome's bench set, and he did twice the heaviest weight that Awesome did once), faster at running (he beat Bryce's cross country time, something that he really wondered why he remembered) were the things he expected. Then there were a few more things that his sire (he considered Elliot more of a teacher, but apparently teacher and person that turned you into a vampire is too long for most people) had to tell him.
Firstly, most if not all humans have baseline psychic abilities. Gut feeling, intuition, that stuff. Some have a little above. Those are the psychics, the ghost whisperers, and others that know things that they shouldn't know under normal circumstances. Being turned sort of unlocks those abilities. Something with the dying part, Chuck wasn't exactly sure. Elliot ran him against a few humans, to see what he could pick up. He identified their feelings and picked up the thoughts on a few of them. Well, he had always been connecting with people on an emotional level, so empathy would be one of them. Reading peoples thoughts, it may have been a good thing that he was taught how to block them out before going home to Ellie. Telepathy he was not expecting and he didn't need to find out what was going through Awesome's and Ellie's heads.
Second, he didn't need to drain someone of blood every night. At most, he needed a pint of blood every day or two. It didn't even need to be human. His body could, metaphorically, 'live' on animal blood. Burbank had a butcher shop next to the shopping district. He could easily get a gallon for the week. He liked lamb and sheep. Pig would do in a pinch and cow only if there wasn't another choice.
Third, he isn't exactly sure whether or not he's dead. He had a heartbeat, a slow one that he heard when he tuned out the normal noises of the area. His body wasn't decaying, so the cells had to be regenerating in some way. He felt hunger, which went away after a drink. He had tried eating a sandwich at one point. Didn't work out. Ellie had to tell him he wasn't warm anymore. Elliot told him he wouldn't age anymore. That pointed Chuck to the dead answer.
Ellie and Awesome knew. The secret spilled out after they came home to see him drinking blood out of a glass. Ellie smacked him about keeping it from her and then proceeded to force him to tell a lot about his new side. Awesome, as it turned out, knew a vampire because of his Dad's business. Nice guy, he said. If a bit paranoid.
Chuck tried to keep it from Sarah and Casey as long as he could. Elliot told him about the government being not too happy with vampires, or a lot of magical creatures. The truth came out after both had been threatened by a terrorist and Chuck had swooped in, literally from the ceiling. He was relieved when they didn't report him to Beckman. He was still the Intersect, and a nice guy. He was told to pick up some slack out on missions. He didn't mind that much. Better than being an experiment.
